Import delta files into Access-Version of DiversityDescriptions

• Download DiversityDescriptions_v0190b10.zip
• Extract DiversityDescriptions_v0190b10.zip
• Run DiversityDescriptions.mdb
• Doubleclick 4.3 Import Project From Delta File
  
  
  
• Select file from harddisk and adjust settings as shown below
  
  
• Click "Start". After importing the data the screen should appear like this:
  
  
• Click "Close", change to the table view and export all tables to your postgreSQL database
  • via ODBC
  • via tab separated files

Transfer data from Access to postgres via ODBC

• Get and install the psql odbc driver on a windows workstation (psqlodbc-08_02_0002.zip)
• Connect your postgres database as a system datasource via the psqlodbc-driver
• Do a right-click on the table you wish to export and select "Export ..."
  
  
• Select "ODBC-Database" in the filetype dropdown list
  
  
• Enter a name for the table in the destination database
  
  
• Select your destination database from your system datasources
  
  
• Repeat this process for each table to be exported
• In postgres you should run VACUUM ANALYZE on all the imported tables

Transfer data from Access to a HSQL database via tab-separated text files

• Do a right-click on the table you wish to export and select "Export ..."
  
  
• Select "text file" in the filetype dropdown list
• Select "with delimiter" (not fixed width)
• Select "Tab" as delimiter and select no text-delimiter
• Be shure that the encoding of the text files is UTF-8. You may change the encoding using a text editor (e.g. Textpad)
• Download DiversityDescriptions_Default.zip and extract the contents into your DiversityNavigator installation directory
• Edit DiversityDescriptions_Default.script with a text editor and replace "<ProjectName>" with your actual project name
• Add the following lines to the configuration file diversity_navigator.services.xml while replacing "<ProjectName>" with your actual project name:

• Start DiversityNavigator
• Show the tables of your new database by clicking on next to the database name
• Select the table you wish to fill with data, do a right-click and select "Edit table rows"
• Select from the Table-Menu "Import rows from file" or click the icon
• Apply the changes to the database by clicking the icon

Now you can edit your data with the DiversityDescriptionsGridEditor and identify your taxa with NaviKey. You may also export your data again to delta flat files.
